EGEN-001 in Treating Patients With Persistent or Recurrent Ovarian Epithelial Cancer, Fallopian Tube Cancer, or Primary Peritoneal Cancer
The American Cancer Society most recent estimates (2011) for ovarian cancer in the United States indicate that about 21,990 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer and about 15,460 women will die from ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death in women and accounts for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. If ovarian cancer is found (and treated) before the cancer has spread outside the ovary, the 5-year survival rate is 94%. However, only 15% of all ovarian cancers are found at this early stage.
